Clark County, Nevada and Riverside, California are leading the pack of counties in the country with the most foreclosures per zip code. This foreclosure contest will not put these counties in the hall of fame. But rather the “Foreclosure Hall of Shame.”
CNNMoney had just came out with the “Foreclosures: 100 worst hit zip codes” and I was amazed to see that these two counties dominated the list with the most foreclosures per zip code in these counties. Clark County had a total of 33 zip codes and Riverside County with 11 zip codes on the foreclosure list.
Now, what does a county do when they are faced with a foreclosure crisis? They do their best to try and solve the problem, like the great City of Riverside has just allocated $40,000 to help fight foreclosures. Yes, a whopping $40,000 to assist all the non-profits (1) to help with counseling and out reach.
Supervisors approved a $40,000 housing-assistance program to aid residents battling foreclosure.
The Foreclosure Prevention Program is a partnership with the Fair Housing Council of Riverside County and will offer education, training and other resources to prevent further defaults.
Riverside County had the eighth-highest foreclosure rate in the nation last year, with nearly 30,000 homes in some stage of foreclosure.
Lisa Jarman , a counselor at the housing council, said the money will be enough to add another counselor. She said the council helps three clients a day.
“The $40,000 is definitely welcome and appreciated … but only scratches the surface. The need is so great,” Jarman said.
Excuse me, but that is a joke! How do they expect to put a dent in the foreclosure crisis with this kind of effort? I can’t keep ignoring the fact that the City of Corona (my city) and the County of Riverside has been literally been silent in regards to the foreclosure crisis that is hitting the Inland Empire and their efforts to assist struggling homeowners have been lack luster, at best.
I have not seen one out reach effort as of yet.
Let’s look at what Riverside City Council has decided to spend tax payer money on:
Purchase price OK’d for underpass land
The council approved paying $1.63 million for property at 6174 and 6180 Magnolia Ave. needed for the proposed underpass on Magnolia at the Union Pacific Railroad tracks near Riverside Plaza.
City Hall upgrades contract awarded
The council awarded a $1 million contract to Corona-based Meadows Construction Services Inc. to install improvements at City Hall to boost energy efficiency, improve safety and comply with the Americans With Disabilities Act.
Contracts approved for jail facilities
Riverside County supervisors Tuesday approved contracts that will pave the way for a major jail expansion and the start of a new $300 million hub jail facility. The two projects have long been priorities for supervisors.
Supervisors approved a contract to Bernards Bros. Inc. of Laguna Hills to begin construction on a $78.9 million, 582-bed expansion of the Larry D. Smith Correctional Facility near Banning.
In addition, supervisors hired the architecture firm DMJM/H&H Inc., of Los Angeles, for nearly $27 million to begin design of the hub jail, which would be located in the mid-county region.
I guess the City of Riverside seems to think that housing more jail inmates and remolding City Hall is more important than the homeowners that are facing foreclosure who reside in its city limits.
The message seems to be clear in Riverside:
Commit a crime = 3 hots and a cot with a “new” roof over your head to do your time
Lose your home to foreclosure = You’ll get more help from the city if you are a criminal
I called the “Foreclosure Sin City” of Las Vegas and asked if they had a foreclosure prevention or out reach program for its residents. The lady who answered the phone barked at me a rude, no. I asked here why? She said they don’t have a problem and that is the county’s job and to call Clark County if I need help. Wow!
I guess what they say about Vegas is true, what happens in Vegas, stays in Vegas.

They need to sue state government for racketeering through appraisal and broker fraud. The State of California intentionally supports real estate fraud.
I dont think you can actually sue the state, but if you really believe there is fraud go after the cities and municipality. State sovereign immunity extends only to the state and “arms of it.”
It’s unreal, just unreal. There’s no realization how this is going to bite them in their butts big time. Both the cities/county goverments and the real estate industry in both places have nothing going on to help the homeowners. The In Las Vegas where the people in real estate have profited greatly in past years are still in denial and are still pushing their “everything is fine and now is the best time to buy”. Cant figure out if real estate people in Las Vegas are deceiving themselves or still stuck on deceiving their clients.

Want some cheese with that whine?
Yes, I do agree with SoCalSal that there is a lot of denial going on ! I have noticed the shift of Realtor advertising and saw and ad in the Californian this morning to sell those Bank Owned homes which now offer Bus tours that leave at 9:30 and return at 1:00 p.m. on Both Saturday and Sunday !
Obviously these are for investors with lots of money because the average person has alot of trouble getting loans now a days .
Maybe while they are taking those bus tours they could swing by the homeless encampments in Temecula area and chuck some bread out the windows for the new families that are out on the streets which many have lost their homes after years of steady home ownership and know that many of those Bank Owned Homes come from families who shed a many tear and now are just cast aside and yet the profits are still trying to be made…
As far as the jails go, why are they putting money into them?
Aren’t they suppose to be uncomfortable ? That is what jail is suppose to be ! A punishment ! Not a vacation at the Hilton !
The prisoners eat better than we do!!
Shame on you Riverside County !!!!!!!!!!!!!
The question still remains whether this project will help or not but the fact remains that many people are losing their homes to foreclosure every day.
I’ve been saying this all along, the Fed and the REALTOR company manipulate the market way too much! If people realized that, this wouldn’t happen.
