Melancholy Korean : your last statment stated that the banks ware being greedy & there was a demand - but that still does not allow them to be negligent & fradulent for profit. everyone who is in business - is in it for some type of profit but i do not agree with it being at the expense of the people in that matter -- & Michaelsblomquist you asked why weren't those laws being enforced - simple some of those who put the laws in order (gov't, bankers etc) some looked the other way, they profited big & now we are in a HUGE mess. so now what?

Thomas Jefferson might have just had the right idea all those years ago.

Well said Moe!

System titled?

This is not a system titled it is a system wide heist. The World's Largest and most unconscionable Ponzi Scheme.

Banks should make money, but not from fraud of biblical proportions.

Regardless of a borrowers' willingness to commit fraud; the lenders and every other institution above the point of origination had a legal responsibility to verify incomes.

One cannot conveniently shrug off that essential responsibility, especially for self enrichment and not expect to be investigated.
As Americans we need to demand and expect our government to initiate investigations or why else are we paying taxes?

Unfortunately, we don't live in a perfect world, but we do have laws. The real question is why these laws are not being enforced?

Sigh. I understand the populist anger, and to some extent, I agree "the system" has tilted too heavily in favor of the "monied corporations," but does the borrower have no responsibility here? Were they forced to buy homes they couldn't afford? Greed on the part of the borrower, in addition to the lender, didn't that play a role?

We are shackled by debt in our homes that are supposed to be our American Dream.

Our mighty government sold this to its people as the American Dream and then it was packaged by banks and then mass produced by Wall Street. Not for the purpose of facilitating our dreams. But for the sole purpose of profiting off of them and then binding us in unconscionable contracts secured by snake oil and fools gold.

We MUST, as American citizens, unite and put a stop to these corporations, banks and world leaders who have their best interests at heart and not the peoples.

Are you running for office?

Banks want to make money. Yes. That's not un-American, is it? And the people who want to "screw 'em" are doing a pretty good job now. Renege on the mortgage, jingle mail the keys, and watch our banks blow up. Is that really a long-term solution? Many of these people would never have qualified for a mortgage under the traditional, conservative lending standards. Fine. The banks are at fault for being greedy. But there was demand for their product, too.
