U.S. Rep. Bill Delahunt  is upset with uncooperative lenders and mortgage servicers and says he is co-sponsoring a bill to give bankruptcy judges the right modify mortgages for homeowners.

Delahunt spoke at a State House briefing yesterday to a panel that included Attorney General Martha Coakley, Secretary of State William Gavin and Speaker of the House Sal DiMasi that Congress should allow bankruptcy courts to modify the terms of predatory loans secured by the borrower’s primary residences.

Delhunt said, “The testimony given today reaffirms the fact that voluntary loan modifications are simply not working.”

“Bankruptcy judges already provide loan relief for businesses, for family farmers and for people with vacation homes, so why shouldn’t they be able to do it for homeowners on their principal residences?” Delahunt said.

“This is a crisis situation that requires urgent action.”

I can tell you with first hand experience that the buck stops at the financial institutions. They are so not willing to work things out for homeowners. Now that they received their bailouts who will bailout the homeowners. Personally, my husband and I have contacted both Wells Fargo and Citibank to work out some kind of agreement. The one thing they both have in common is that they give you the run-around. They transfer or give you number(s) of other departments to call and customer service seems to never chrono their phone conversations with the homeowner, and so you have to start from the beginning every time you contact them. This is extremely exhausting and not to say FRUSTRATING. When I start out to talk with them, I have devote at least 3 hours of my time. This is rediculous amount of time to go nowhere!!! We’ve been trying to negotiate with them since November 2008, and they promise that someone would be contacting us within the 10 day mark, but that never comes. Still waiting. It’s almost like they want you to fail. THIS IS A VERY SAD TIME IN ALLOT OF PEOPLE’S LIVES!!
