CNNMoney.com looks at five reasons why the loan modification process is so slow.
Reason #1: The fax machine
Having applicants fax their information to servicers has produced a slew of problems. Pages get lost or are cut off at the top or bottom. Servicers provide non-working or incorrect numbers. Applications are routed improperly, leaving files incomplete.
“It seems your stuff goes into a black hole”

This is absolutely ridiculous! In this day and age when you know these banks and servicers have invested in the digital infrastructures to support their business, to not accept submissions electronically is pathetic.
I believe this is being done to intentionally slow down and derail the process. So maybe they have a small argument that generally most people to not send or know how to use secure email, however, it is just as simple to put up a secure form where an end user can go and upload the file image.
In addition to having a digital version, they will also have record of receipt. Isn’t that the real underlying issue. If they relied on digital technology homeowners will be able to prove that they have sent the information, it is also just as easy, less costly and time consuming to resend the information.
Loan modification is generally a losing proposition to lenders and servicers, why would they make the process easy?
It is the exact same reason they want the homeowner to believe this can be done for free. Good luck, homeowners beware!
