Evicted owners stripping homes of all valuables

Sure, the plunging price reflects a weak housing market. But it also reflects another trend: the evicted former owners had stripped the home of all valuables inside — including its appliances and its plumbing — leaving only a skeleton of a structure.

“They took everything,” southwest suburban Realtor Patrick Zomparelli said.

Chicago area real estate agents say some of the record numbers of people recently facing foreclosure are gutting their former homes on their way out the door.

I would highly advise against this. Lenders are quick to act with punitive action that could land homeowners is a worse predicament and with criminal implications.

I am very sympathetic to how homeowners may feel as they as salvaging their lives but be aware that if the lender files charges, anything they may be able to claim with value over $500 is a felony offense.

It may be ok to replace it with something of lesser value but removing major improvements that once increased the value of the home can now be view as grand theft.

I understand that is not what most want to hear but I do not want to see homeowners continue to experience such pain and turmoil. I know of instances where even contractors removed improvements from the home after not being paid and the are now working through the litigation process.

May god bless you and protect you! Remember to measure twice and cut once, the decision you make may not be reversible.

    Thank you for your consideration.

HELLO, THE APPLIANCES? DON’T THOSE GENERALLY BELONG TO THE PERSON WHO PAID FOR THEM?

They have EVERY right to take ALL the appliances out.

And if they paid for a house that was under construction, and they BOUGHT the cabinets outside of that financing, hmmm, I think they could take those too.

I don’t think anyone should do structural damage though, so if it would cause damage, NO. Like copper pipes, HELLO, leave them alone people. That is low taking the pipes.

Take your washer, dryer, frige, freezer, dishwasher, air conditioner–ALL OF THAT. I know the bank didn’t pay for any of MY appliances so if I go, they go, including the built ins.
