Foreclosure stripping continues as people go to prison

Alonzo Patterson – On July 10, 2009 a jury convicted Patterson of Burglary, a class 4 felony; and Possession of Burglary

Tools, a class 6 felony. On February 13, 2009 Phoenix Police caught Patterson stealing the copper piping out of a vacant home in Phoenix. He told officers he intended to sell it for scrap. He was sentenced to 10 years in prison on August 28, 2009.

Mark Sydnor – This defendant was arrested by the FBI Mortgage Task Force and accused of offering to sell countertops, cabinets, and plumbing fixtures from a home in Scottsdale.

He placed an ad on Craigslist. Sydnor told undercover police he routinely holds similar estate sales where he removes items and sells them from homes about to go into foreclosure, giving the home owner 75 percent of the proceeds. The mortgage company
had started foreclosure proceedings on Jan.29, 2009. Sydnor was arrested on April 20, 2009. On Aug. 12, Sydnor pled guilty to Defrauding a Secured Creditor.
