“The church is the largest holder of land and the biggest builder of affordable housing, day-care centers and childcare providers,” Jackson said. “When this institution is under crisis, the whole community is in trouble.”
He said the banks’ reluctance to lend to churches reflects a failure to understand how churches operate. He said tithing is part of congregant’s spiritual allegiance to the church.
The Rainbow Push Coalition, Jackson’s nonprofit advocacy group, will urge leaders in government for greater reforms at its13th annual Wall Street Project Summit in New York on Jan 13-15.
