ANAHEIM, Calif. — Police are investigating whether money and marriage troubles prompted a California man to kill his wife, wound his 3-year-old son and take his own life in a backyard rampage.
The boy was found hiding behind a trash can in the yard 12 hours after the Sunday killings.
He remained hospitalized Tuesday in critical but stable condition after being treated for wounds to his hip, shoulder and torso.
Anaheim police Sgt. Rick Martinez says the family home was in foreclosure, and the couple had personal problems.
Police believe the 54-year-old man shot his 39-year-old wife and the boy. The bodies of the parents were found on lawn chairs.
