Loan Modification Increases Payments For Homeowner

It’s a government program called HOPE. The purpose: to save your home from foreclosure. But one suburban woman says the program has given her anything but hope. In fact, CBS 2 Dorothy Tucker reports, she’s now closer than ever to losing her home.

“I don’t want to see my stuff put out on the lawn and I’ve turned to everybody,” said Tammy Spagnola, Algonquin homeowner.

Spagnola is just steps away from losing the home where she and her husband, Kevin, have raised their four children. And how she got here is an emotional roller coaster she says no homeowner should have to ride.

“My original payment was $2,173,” she said.

The Spagnolas had no problem paying their original mortgage of $2,173. But last year, Kevin’s income was cut in half. That’s when the couple applied for a loan modification from Chase. In October, they got temporary offer of $1,635, a reduction of more than $700.
