Homeowners Still Struggling For Loan Modifications

Many Bay Area homeowners who have been paying their bills, despite financial troubles, are finding it almost impossible to get a home loan modification.

It’s been a tough year and a half for Carol and Joe Siers. Carol was laid off from her job in December of 2008 and her husband, Joe, had his hours reduced at his job. Suddenly, the Siers couldn’t make their $2,800 monthly mortgage payments.

“When it was becoming apparent around February that I wasn’t going to get another job, at last not right away…then we started applying for the hardship and loan modification,” Carol said.

Even with their reduced incomes, the Siers still had trouble getting the banks to work with them.
