Foreclosures: bad for your wallet, and now hurting your health. As Vicky Nguyen reports, researchers found the stress of losing your home can make you physically ill and in some cases, even shorten your life.
Researchers surveyed nearly 400 people who live in two Oakland, CA neighborhoods. They found that a third of those who live in foreclosed properties are dealing with unhealthy living conditions such as mold and that people in these areas die, on average, 10 years sooner.
“The rates of stress and depression and anxiety are two times higher,” said Sandra Witt, Alameda County Public Health Department.
